The Big Cheese

My kid FINALLY decided that smiling for the camera is okay instead of his usual running for the hills. All I have to say is.....IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME!

I never said it was cute....

Only a mother could love that mug!

(Just Kidding, MOM!)

President's Day

Who DOESN'T celebrate President's Day?? Anyone who misses out on such a great holiday, is seriously deprived. For Presiden't Day the girls and I decided to eat at an All-American hideaway.....Souper Salad. Nothing says patriotism like unlimited Salad and Gingerbread. I'll tell you though, everyone else in the vicinity of the Taylorsville restaurant decided to show their patriotism as well. It was PACKED and the manager was sweating like it was the 4th of July. Yummy.

Raine, Kirstin (her nephew), Stephanie, Me and Gav, Lindsi and Marissa.

Gavin being silly...right before he spilt my water.

Gavin felt bad and decided to clean up all of the ice himself....using his mouth....

He loves anyone who will play with him. He just went nuts seeing all these pretty girls. Rarrr.....

NEW COUCHES!

Before:

I loved our old couches, but it was time for new. I lOVE them! They are so fluffy and soft and HUGE! They are made with a micro-suede that feels like a baby towel. Gavin loves them because it's easier for him to make a hut with the big pillows they came with. So far, so good.

Valentine's Dinner

Last Sunday, we got together with a bunch of my best friends and their husbands for some good eatin'! We wanted to do a group date for Valentine's Day, so we decided to let KJ (Marissa's Husband) cook us up some AWESOME food. The man is a genious in the kitchen. He puts me to shame (not that that is difficult to do). We hung out at Lindsi's house while the boys played with the Wii and us girls ate some chocolate fountain goodness. I was so sick by the time we left (but in a GOOD way!). (Andrew (Raine's Kool-aid), Laraine, KJ (Chef), Marissa (KJ's Kool Aid), Me, Paul (Lindsi's Kool-Aid), Edee and Emilee, and da momma, Lindsi...I think that about covers it!

Gavin played in a box of recycled newspaper the whole night at my mom's house. Poor kid....his parents can't even afford anything better!

LOVE IS GOOD

V-day

Valentine's, every year, is wonderful. Tim never fails to be a good guy on this day. Every year I think he forgot and every year he manages to surprise me. Everyday just gets better and better! I'm so greatful to have a husband like him! Him and Gavin are my WORLD!

Poor Gavin got the shaft this time. He didn't get anything. Not even a sucker. Poor kid. I just gave him some crayons and paper because that's all he wants sometimes. I love it when they're young, you can't scar them as badly.
Gavin made this cute monster on a paper plate at Sally's work. He loves going there and playing!I made Tim this thing to keep on his desk at work...it has notes (nice ones!) from Gavin and I in there to read when he misses us.
Gavin has a bad attitude about the camera. He HATES it! Maybe he thinks it's stealing his soul.

Playing Catchup

Tim bought me a new camera and I've been trying to get all of my old pictures onto the computer and post them, but I have seriously had NO time to do it. It's getting pretty ridiculous. Do you know how it is when you go crazy trying to get everything done...and you seem like your just running, running, running??? Then you look around and see that it really didn't matter and you have so little to show for it? That's right about where I'm at right now. Thankfully, I hope to give up tomarrow. Which means.....

more time for blogging!!!!

I know you are ALL excited.....
Anyways, here's some pics from the last couple of weeks I haven't had time to post:

First off SUPER BOWL SUNDAY (better known as "Tim's Christmas")

Sally and Brian whipped us up some awesome Margarita's, Pina Colada's and Strawberry Daquris (sp?). I never would have thought of it...she's so smart. And I'm glad she put my blender to good use. (Yes, for those who are wondering, I got sloshed....just kidding)

Jessica and Michelle came over to party because no one else allows them over anymore. I've always got to be the nice one!

Gavin's FIRST Margarita. He loved them! I guess I'm just starting 'em early. I honestly think he had 4 Margarita's.

The gang! Wow, we are quite the crazed partiers, aren't we?! Lacey, you had a good excuse! I'm Glad you still came over!

Next is: Tim's Birthday

Tim had a good birthday. He does kind of get shafted because it's the day before Valentine's, but what can you do?? I planned a nice romantic dinner at Sampan and then we were going to watch National Treasure (the new one, Tim's Fave) while Jess watched Gavin. Well.....that FREAKING snowstorm came and it took us 2 hours to get to the theater. Grrrrr... We ended up eating hamburger's in our laps while we watched Fool's Gold instead. Tim was a good sport about it and he loved his gifts! Of course, I honored him with the all time favorite, Chuck Norris shirt, he also got a remote controlled helicopter (he's been eyeing Wyatt's) and a picture for his desk.

Can you tell the cake is homemade....ghetto.

I LOVE YA' BABAY! YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Sunday, again

Well, this week flew by like crazy! I can't remember much of the week. Oh, yeah....it snowed. Sweet. Valentine's and Tim's Bday kept me pretty busy (I LOVE MY HUSBAND!) and we finished our taxes!! I hope do a couple more posts later....we'll see.

Week at a Glance

Here's to another fun week:

Monday: Hung out with gavin...always fun.

Tuesday: Made some crazy pictures with Gavin for Valentines Day. By the looks of them, you would never guess what they were.

Wednesday: Ummm....what did I do??? Umm....I think I finished Twilight for the umpteenth time and started on New Moon, again. We went to my dad's that night and hung out watching his new freaking awesome TV.

Thursday: Went to work and poor Misty had to leave because her baby wanted to come out. I had a crazy night...but it was nice in the end...lotsa moolah!

Friday: Went to Sally's work and had a Valentine's Day party. We made these cute monster looking Valentine's. She made some great food for everyone too! I love her job! She keeps us entertained!

Saturday: Tim went night snowboarding with Brian, so Sally and I took Gavin out to eat at the new Australian restaurant Matilda's. It was super yummy and fun (just don't eat the burger with the fried egg, beets, bacon, onion and tomato...sounds yucky). It was nice to get a good table just because the boys weren't with us. It was also nice to just get girl time (Well, gavin doesn't qualify for manhood, yet). We then convinced the boys to pick up some Leatherby's for dessert. Let's just say, I ate my entire weekly points on this day.

Sunday: Dinner with Dad. Jess cooked, we ate. The way it should be! Gavin loved playing with Ian and Anna!

No More Momma's Milk??

Well, I think I've done it. I am pretty sure I've weaned Gavin from the Momma's Milk. Maybe. I say maybe because it has really only been two days since he last had his fill and there is still a slim possibility he might have a freak out session or get sick and I'll give in. I'm still kind of holding my breath, waiting for him to figure out what I've done and then he'll right a letter to his local La Leche League.

Don't get me wrong.... I LOVED breastfeeding. It was the hardest, easiest, most rewarding and best thing I've done for him so far and I am so proud of myself for sticking with it so long....but, as all good things must, it was time to end. 20 months was never my original goal. I was simply pushing for the one year mark and by the way things started out for us...I really didn't know if we'd make it. Before I had him, I knew my goal and I was Hell bent on not being another woman who felt defeated and turned to formula. I bought every book, grabbed every pamphlet and scoured the internet for advice on breastfeeding. I even joined the Babyzone Breastfeeding board so I could be in contact with Lactation Consultants and other women going through what I was going through. My good friend, Sally helped me out quite a bit too. I can't forget her!

For the first few months it was HELL! No joke. I remember being locked up in rooms just trying to nurse. He would fall asleep while nursing and it took everything to wake the kid back up to eat again. I was so frustrated and worried he wasn't getting enough to eat. Not to mention the nursing every hour on the hour throughout the night. Super fun! Oh yeah, and the not being able to nurse in public was getting ridiculous.

I remember swearing if I heard one more person tell me or someone else that I should put rice cereal in their bottle or give them formula so they'll go longer in between feedings I was going to SCREAM! It's a cop-out and stupid! That's not how it works! Your body and your baby set the schedule...not you crazy people!

Okay, now that that's off my chest...

Things didn't start looking up until after we cleared up some fun ear infections (that would allow me to only feed him while he was sleeping and in awkward positions)....Then it was heaven. The bonding and the cuddling go unsurpassed in my book. I love it and I still love it! I love how healthy and smart he is and I love that he got it all from me.....I've never had to buy formula or bottles.

So to all you ladies trying to breastfeed.....It gets easier, I promise! It's so worth it!

***Now I better enter a disclaimer to this post....I'm not ragging on women who choose to formula feed! I'm just trying to give others who find breastfeeding difficult a leg up by sharing my thoughts and stories.

I think he's 4 month's in these pics....

I had milk that could feed an entire third world country. This kid was a chunk for the longest time. I thought I had a sumo baby for sure. But he slimmed down and this is him now....

I can't believe I lasted 1 year, 8 months and 2 days! (Don't ask me how I know that..)

Hey, I was tagged! How's about that! Thanks Meg for giving me something fun to do!

TAGGED….

A- Attached or Single? Attached like no other! My boys are my life! They will never be able to get rid of me...**evil laugh**

B- Best Friend? Tim is first and always. My sister, Jessica. They both know way too much about me!

C- Cake or Pie? Cake for sure! No frosting though....ick...

D- Day of Choice? Saturday! Tim's home and lets me sleep in. He feeds Gavin and plays with him all day long. It's pretty much my only day off.

E- Essential Item? My Slippers with a microwavable heated insert in the sole's. They even smell like lavender too! (I think Tim got this at Bath and Body) My feet are ALWAYS cold! My Weight Watchers book are with me 24/7. I guess that's essential, right??

F- Favorite Color? Right now.....I love Pink, Red, Black and White...in the same pattern. (Laraine would kill me if she knew! Don't tell her!) I have been obsessed with finding some fabric with all of these colors for weeks! Can you imagine nobody has anything like that!

G- Gummy Bears or Worms? Ummmm, neither....I'm not down with the gummy stuff. Ever since those darn Sponge Bob Gummy Krabby patties came out...I can't touch the stuff!

H- Hometown? Good ol' West Valley City. That's where the Witness Protection Program sent me...

F- Favorite Indulgence? Baths! I love baths, especially in the cold, dead of winter. I love to just soak in the tub reading good books. Ohhhhh, and there has to be bubbles! I've already used ALL of the Bubble Bath Lindsi got me for Christmas...THANKS LINDS!

J- January or July? Ugh. July for sure! I love the heat...One day I'll move to warmer climates. I just need to bring it up with Tim.

K- Kids? I'll sell you one...super cheap. He's cute and loves to vacuum...goes by Gavin the Stinkbug. I'll even pay shipping! (Freak, MOM! I'm just kidding! Don't start bidding!)

L- Life isn’t complete without? My Family...my loving sweet, cleaning obsessed boys....sigh...

M- Marriage date? November 6, 2004..... Or lovingly known as..."The day Tim got Lucky!"

N- Number of brothers and sisters? Let's count.....4 sisters, 2 brothers. 4 sister's- in-law and 5 brother's in law. Let's just say it makes for one SUPER expensive Christmas. No wonder Tim threatened to convert to a religion that doesn't celebrate holidays!

O- Oranges or Apples? Oranges TASTE better, but only when you find a good one! I seem to only find the crappy kind (but I guess that's because I shop at walmart). I'll go with apples.

P- Phobias and Fears? Height's suck. Losing someone I love...that would suck too. I also have a huge fear of talking on the phone. It's rough for me. Not that I don't like people or don't WANT to talk to them...it really is just because it's a phone. I can't explain it!

Q- Quote? "Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious." --- Brendan Gill
I love this one! It makes me smile.

R- Reason to smile? My little boy is the best sleeper (knock on wood) in the world! He takes long naps and sleeps in until atleast 9AM! What more could a mother want??

S- Season of choice? Summer, I love the warmth and all the stuff we get to do! Gavin and I can play outside ALL day!

T- Tag five people? Well, I guess I'll tag Lydia, Lacey, Erin, Paige and Tiffany... and all you lucky fools DYING to do this!

U- Unknown fact about me? I honestly have a fear of phones...(above). People think I'm an idiot...heck, Tim thinks I'm an idiot, but they seriously scare me. It really has nothing to do with the person on the phone! I just struggle making phone calls. (No, I'm not making up excuses of why I haven't called you mom!) However, once I'm on the phone I'm fine and you can't get me to SHUT UP!

V- Vegetable? Anything! I love almost all vegetables!

W- Worst Habit? Not eating like I should! Going to bed late. I'm always going going going and can't seem to sit down.

X-ray or Ultrasound? Never had an X-ray so I really couldn't tell you. I love ultrasounds when you're looking at your new baby!

Y- Your favorite food? Just like Meg....DARK CHOCOLATE! I'm also a salsa fanatic...hot and spicy (like me, duh!)

Z- Zodiac Sign? Taurus....bullheaded for sure.

That was fun, now I'm going to bed! Thanks, MEG!

Conan O'Brien

Who in their right mind would allow their 21 month old baby to stay up late and let them watch Conan O'Brien? Someone call DCFS and report neglect! No, just kidding, don't do that....Anyways, I guess that means I win the 'Bad Mommy of the Year' Award.

Here's Why:

Gavin's sleep schedule is all sorts of screwed up from being sick last week and he is now staying up super late. Needless to say he was up when I came home from work at 9:30PM. Being the bad mommy that I am, I couldn't put my kid to bed....I had to play! (Who can resist when their kid is acting so silly). Finally, I decided it was about time for bed (since it WAS 11PM) and I was about to take him upstairs when the Conan O'Brien theme song started to play. Immediately....as if he was programmed to do this.....Gavin jumps out of my arms to dance and jump. It was so cute! (Guess you had to be there) He giggled EVERY time he did something funny. I think his all time favorite part was when Conan, Jon Stewert and Steven Colbert brawled....or maybe that was MY favorite part. I think he's attracted to the hair.

Anyways....this post did turn out pretty long....

I guess I just could have said.... "My kid likes Conan"

(btw, this picture is form NBC.com)

Week at a Glance

I decided I really need to do more posts that are more relative to journaling...that is after all, my reason to blog. It really should be a no brainer. Anyways....

My week last week:

Monday: don't know what I did....

Tuesday: don't remember what I did again... I worked with Laurie, that was fun.

Wednesday: Tim, Gavin and I went to my mom's and had yummy rice casserole. I tried it with salsa and it was AWESOME! That night, Gavin decided he wanted to get sick. We were up ALL night. He kept pointing to his right ear and then touching the tips of his fingers. It took me all night to figure out he was signing that his ear hurt. I'm an idiot!

Thursday: I spent all day waiting for our doctor appointment and Gavin FINALLY got the medicine to make him better.

Friday: New boy....Gavin and I just cuddled and watched movies....wonderful day!

Saturday: Went with Sally and Brian and Brian's motorcycle club to The Golden Corral. It was funny to see all those big biker guys in line for the dessert bar. My Weight Watchers was put to the test and luckily I won. I have their dine out guide and I was able to figure up all the points I ate....A LOT.

Sunday: SUPERBOWL! Tim's Christmas. We got together with Brian and Sally, My sister and Michelle and Tyler and Lacey stopped by for a second. It was so fun! I don't think I've ever watched so many dumb You Tube videos in my life! None of us went to bed until midnight. Luckily Gavin slept in until 10:30 AM to make up for it. Life was great!
Oh yeah, and I lost 1 lb! Yeah for weight watchers!

In Memory of Gordon B. Hinckley

You know how everyone always knows exactly where they were, what they were doing and how they felt the moment something impacts history? I never fully understood this more until last Sunday night, while playing games at Tyler and Lacey's, when Tim's mom called with the news of the passing of our beloved prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley.
I know alot of you who read my blog are not LDS, have no idea that that means I'm a Mormon, or really don't understand the religion at all. I'm not going to take the time to explain our beliefs, but I am going to say that this man is the perfect embodiment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For me, he is the closest thing to living the life Jesus Christ teaches about and I am amazed at the life he led and how he carried himself from day to day.
He is the only prophet I knew and it was hard to understand that he will no longer greet us in General Conference. I loved his sense of humor, his love without reservation for EVERY SINGLE person in the world, and his devotion to the gospel. If only we could see through his eyes!
His words of encouragement and love were what taught me of the truth behind this amazing church. It was his words that converted me and truly taught me the truth. I am forever thankful we had this man on the earth. The world will always be a better place because he dwelt in it.
I know it may seem weird, but I am not sad...not at all. In fact, I am happy. I KNOW that he is in paradise right now, I KNOW he still lives, and I KNOW he is with his beloved wife for eternity. This is why I chose an eternal marriage. He has just cemented, in my mind, the truthfulness of the gospel. We will forever love him.
If anyone would like to learn of our beliefs or more on the prophet, here are some great links:
We Thank Thee, Oh God, for a Prophet....
